A Summer Night in Munich is Oscar Peterson's highly anticipated follow-up to his 1998 Oscar & Benny album, a collaboration with pianist and protégé Benny Green. Featuring four world premier compositions, Peterson and his band combine a rare collective intuition with an impressive range of textures and styles while performing this fresh material in a live setting.

A Summer Night in Munich features Oscar's latest quartet-whom he refers to as his N.A.T.O. group-with new recruit Swede Ulf Wakenius on guitar, Dane Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass, Englishman Martin Drew on drums, and Canadian Peterson on piano. Improvisation of this quality can only be based on the shared virtues of collective interplay and mutual respect, and is more akin to a living, breathing conversation than the tired old formula of "trading fours."

Recorded in Surround Sound on July 22, 1998 to a capacity crowd at the Munchen Philharmonika in Germany, A Summer Night in Munich captures Oscar's only European concert of 1998. It is clear from the tremendous enthusiasm of the audience that the magic in Oscar Peterson's playing is stronger than ever. A Summer Night in Munich is another impressive offering from a pianist who is second to none.
