Brazilian Soul was the first recorded meeting of acoustic guitar masters Laurindo Almeida and Charlie Byrd. Both guitarists are widely acknowledged for their roles in bringing the sound of the Brazilian bossa nova to the United States. Together on Brazilian Soul, they explore a variety of Brazilian music—running the gamut from the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim to colorful adaptations of pieces by Brazilian classical composers—with an expressiveness and subtle interplay that remain unmatched.
In their second recorded pairing, Latin Odyssey, Almeida and Byrd venture beyond the borders Brazil, applying their peerless combination of virtuosity and nuance to a kaleidoscopic collection of Latin American music. Ranging from the lively tango of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla to the plaintive tones of Spanish composer Madriguera, Laurindo Almeida and Charlie Byrd delivered a second masterpiece with Latin Odyssey (and perhaps the only recording that could have possibly rivaled their first).
