On September 15, 1969, Sonny Stitt and organist Don Patterson recorded for the last time together for Prestige Records. From 1961 to 1969, over the course of at least 13 sessions for seven different labels, bebop titan Stitt (1924-1982) and the ever-inventive soul-jazzer Patterson (1936-1988) forged what was surely one of the outstanding, long-term saxophone/organ partnerships, with the coolly burning Billy James usually their drummer. But the ten tracks herein are made further notable by the addition of Grant Green (1931-1979), whose biting, blues-drenched solos marked him as one of the giants of 1960s jazz guitar. In a program that includes tunes by Irving Berlin, Burt Bacharach, and Miles Davis, these Brothers Four, sounding like a particularly close-knit family, turn in a typically finger-popping, funky set laden with high-flying, good-grooving bebop 'n' boogaloos.
