There have been innumerable impressive editions of the Messengers (any chronological list of Blakey's stars-to-be sidemen would take far more space than is available here). But it would be hard to find a more awesome lineup–in terms of both their strength together and their later achievements–than this early-Sixties unit: Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, Curtis Fuller.

Caravan, Sweet ’n’ Sour, (In the) Wee Small Hours (of the Morning), This Is for Albert, Skylark, Thermo, plus CD bonus tracks, Sweet ’n’ Sour (take 4) , Thermo (take 2)

with Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, Reggie Workman
