Blues singer Alberta Hunter, who began singing professionally in Chicago in 1912, has been making records now for an astonishing 63 years. While the careers of most other major classic blues women of the Twenties were unable to survive the Great Depression, Hunter continued performing until 1957, when she dropped out of show business to become a practical nurse.
In 1961, classic blues connoisseur Chris Albertson coaxed Hunter back into the studio for this heartfelt reunion with veteran Chicago pianist Lovie Austin. It was one of only three record dates Hunter made between 1950 and 1978, when she returned to performing fulltime until her death in 1984 at age 89.
