Concert pianist Michael Chertock brings his special touch to a highly appealing album of tunes from Christmas films old and new, including arrangements of music from Miracle on 34th Street, Home Alone and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

On young pianist Michael Chertock’s third album for Telarc, he once again adopts a “movie” theme, but this time he has recorded a program of original arrangements of holiday favorites.

“Two themes run consistently through the most beloved music of Christmas—hope and memory,” he says. “Practically every twentieth-century holiday song is touched by both warmth and melancholy, perhaps reflecting the composer’s memories of childhood family gatherings.”

This collection of songs varies, ranging from old movie chestnuts like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” from Miracle on 34th Street to endearing arrangements of “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Carol of the Bells” and the haunting tune “Walking in the Air” from The Snowman.
