A musical chameleon, jazz pianist Marian McPartland has the uncanny ability to adapt to any musical situation (witness her countless NPR Piano Jazz radio programs) and still sound like no one but herself. In this 2-CD collection we hear the first lady of jazz piano in two wonderfully contrasting sessions. Disc One—a collection of intimate solo piano performances, duet performances with bassist Michael Moore, and trio performances with bassist Rusty Gilder and drummer Joe Corsello—finds the encyclopedic pianist uncovering layers upon layers of beauty and depth in the introspective music of Alec Wilder. On Disc Two, Marian takes a sentimental journey with trad-jazz cornetist and husband Jimmy McPartland, in an unabashedly fun, exuberant, and swinging, live New Orleans-style jazz jam.
