This high-powered compilation celebrates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Empire Brass Quintet. The Empire Brass enjoys an international reputation as North America's finest brass quintet, renowned for its brilliant virtuosity and the unparalleled diversity of its repertoire. The five musicians?all of whom have held leading positions with major American orchestras?perform over 100 concerts a year, in cities including New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, London, Zurich and Tokyo. They are equally at home in the majestically antiphonal works composed by Gabrieli for St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice and the show-stopping tunes written by Richard Rodgers and Andrew Lloyd Webber for Broadway. The Empire Brass is the first brass ensemble to win the prestigious Naumberg Chamber Music Award.
In these fourteen tracks, you can hear the group's incredible versatility and virtuosity, in original brass works and transcriptions, taken from Empire's Telarc discography. Included are some wonderfully rhythmic renaissance dances by Susato, Weck, and de la Torre, as well as foot stompin' arrangements of "Big Spender," from Sweet Charity, and the traditional "When the Saints Go Marchin' In."
