The embodiment of heartfelt, down-home, bluesy, funky swing, Milt Jackson was also a master of subtlety and sensitivity in the art of the ballad. Both aspects are beautifully showcased in this collection of arrangements by the talented Melba Liston for the vibraharpist and an all-star band assembled in 1963. Among the soloists heard with Jackson are trumpeters Clark Terry, Thad Jones, and Dave Burns, trombonists Quentin Jackson and Jimmy Cleveland, and Julius Watkins on French horn. Jackson’s earthiness is emphasized in “(What’s Your Story) Morning Glory,” his tenderness in “Chelsea Bridge.” He combines both in “Save Your Love for Me.”
