The first time I heard Vance Gilbert was on November, 26, 1992 -- and just so you know, I don't remember many dates. But that one seemed particularly momentous. I was a little late wandering into a Shawn Colvin concert and the opening act had already started. As I walked through the door, it sounded like a big party was going on . . . a party that I soon found out was named Vance Gilbert. Just a guy and his acoustic guitar standing in the middle of a stage, leading the audience through uncontrollable laughter, smiling sing-alongs, heart-stopping a capellas, thumping jazzy guitar licks, and some of the most beautiful melodies to ever ride the air. I was awe-struck. And in the handful of times that I've had the chance to see him perform since, he has never been anything less than amazing.
