If you’re lucky, you know about If I’m Lucky, an album that occupies a place at or near the top of the tall stack of recordings Zoot Sims made during his 45 years as a professional tenor saxophonist. On the other hand, If you’re about to hear If I’m Lucky for the first time, youÕre still lucky. The session brought out the best in the relationship between Sims and Jimmy Rowles, a pianist whose abilities as an accompanist and a soloist are matched only by his knowledge of beautiful but obscure songs like the title tune and “I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone.” Bassist George Mraz and drummer Mousey Alexander, two of Zoot’s favorite sidemen, round out the rhythm section.
