Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans shared more than their respective Riverside Records contracts. They were colleagues in the historic 1958 Miles Davis Sextet, and collaborated on two of Adderley's previous albums, including his Riverside debut Portrait of Cannonball (OJC-361). This set, recorded after each was established as a leader and style setter in his own right, pairs them with the rhythm section of the Modern Jazz Quartet for a program in which Adderley's soulful emoting and Evans's equally passionate introspection merge like two sides of the same sublime musical coin. Highlights include a classic version of "Waltz for Debby" and Evans's title track tribute to Cannonball, which (like "Who Cares?") is also heard in a bonus alternate take.
