Leroy Vinnegar (1928-1999) was long respected as a fixture on the Los Angeles jazz scene and a master of the art of “walking” on the bass, maintaining the steady pulse that contributed to hundreds of Southland sessions. As a leader, he selected an unusual group that included the versatile Victor Feldman, playing vibes here; the late, great Carl Perkins on piano, Teddy Edwards on tenor saxophone, and a rare appearance by Gerald Wilson as a solo jazz trumpeter.
