These recordings, made by Alan Lomax over a three-day period in 1940, include many of Woody Guthrie's best-loved songs, coupled with his spoken commentary and observations on the hard times of America in the thirties. The material here -- over 2 1/2 hours (on three CDs or two cassettes) -- has inspired generations of ballad makers since.
