Two legendary masters of mainstream jazzHarry 'Sweets' Edison and Clark 'Mumbles' Terryperform a romping set of nine swing classics and ballads, as they co-lead an all-star team that includes the incomparable Frank Wess on tenor sax and flute, and pianist Junior Mance. From the time Count Basie gave to the world the derivative of jump blues, an elegant yet hard-swinging jazz style, these veterans have been part of the swing jazz tradition that lives on.
Live at the Iridium gives ‘Sweets’ and ‘Mumbles’ the opportunity to show the hard-swinging chops which put them at the top of their craft. These veteran musicians maintain an ongoing swing-fest with splendid interpretations of a tribute to Sweets’ daughter, “Helena’s Theme,” the bluesy “Doggin’ Around,” the light-swaying Latinized original, “Sweets Bossa,” and the beautiful ballad “Emily,” which features a supreme solo by pianist Junior Mance.
Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison and the Golden HornsLive at the Iridium captures what vital live-recorded jazz is all aboutcatching a team of veteran performers in one of their finest performances.
