National Heritage Award winner Ola Belle Reed grew up in the mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina, near neighboring Galax, Virginia. It’s an area ex¬tremely rich in producing the finest of old-time musicians, and she was among the best. She was also a fine songwriter with a catalog of over 200 songs, including 'High on a Mountain' and 'The Leading Role.' The material on this album ranges from primitive Baptist hymns, to Ola Belle's later compositions – delivered in a near-country and western style – to old-time fiddle tunes and ballads.
