Rarely has any bluegrass group simultaneously possessed a pair of such fine tenor singers as Joe Val and Herb Applin. While most bluegrass groups of the time were moving to a smoother trio sound, Joe and Herb focussed on the brother-duet style they loved so much, while adding the high lonesome sound of early bluegrass.
