Rufus Thomas is one of the last of the old-school entertainers who do it all--song, dance, and comedy. While no audio recording can document the visual aspects of a performance, this remarkable compact disc does capture Thomas’s infectious, rhythmically riveting soul and blues singing, as well as his side-splitting comedy routine. The veteran vaudevillian, then at the beginning of his third decade as an R&B hitmaker, maintained the same hold on a small but effusive audience at a Hollywood club in 1970 as he did on an ecstatic crowd of over 100,000 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum two years later. Providing driving instrumental support are two bands that would become major acts in their own right--L.T.D. (with Jeffrey Osborne on drums) and Project Soul (soon to be renamed Con Funk Shun).

with Carle Vickers, Karl Fuller, Jake Riley, Jr., Felton Pilate, Abraham Joseph "Onion" Miller, Paul Harrell, Michael Cooper, Arthur Lorenzo Carnegie, Jimmie Davis, Cedric Martin, Danny Thomas, Jeffrey Osborne, Louis McCall
