We play English country dance music, almost always for folk dancers, and in that sense we play folk music. But much of our repertoire is form two or three hundred years ago, and we play in a style which more often sounds like classical or chamber music. Added to this is a strong improvisatory element. In our improvisations we also draw upon our own twentieth-century roots in blues, jazz, and other popular music. So where does that leave us? Folk-classical-jazz fusion? Enlightenment bebop? Reformation Rhythm and Blues?' --Peter Barnes, Bare Necessities
