Zinman and the Baltimore Symphony have garnered much praise for their Telarc recordings. Although less than two years separate the composition of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony from that of his Third, it is apparent that the Fourth has a new depth of emotional expression; a characteristic that would be the hallmark of his greatest music for the rest of his life. The intensely colorful Romeo and Juliet is one of the most popular pieces in the orchestral repertoire and is especially well known for its beautiful “love-theme.” These two compositions, together with Telarc’s “splendid” (CD Review) production, make for an exciting musical experience.
