Brew Moore was one of the most naturally swinging and lyrical players ever to blow a tenor saxophone (or any other instrument). He played in the big bands of Claude Thornhill and Gene Williams, but the majority of his career was spent in a small-group format, preferably in the head of informal quartets and quintets. Brew loved nothing more than a good jam session and his working groups maintained this spirit with a repertoire of standards and blues. The Mississippi-born Moore had been in New York for a few years when he moved to San Francisco in 1954 and became a focal figure on the scene there. On these dates he is accompanied by all Bay Area musicians, including the rarely-recorded trumpeter Dickie Mills.
with Dickie Mills, John Marabuto, Max Hartstein, Gus Gustofson
