Fledgling singer-guitarist Odetta Felious had come to San Francisco in 1953 in hopes of landing a gig at the famous hungry i nightclub, but was hired instead to perform at the Tin Angel, a bar near Fisherman's Wharf. Her moving renditions of folk material, sung in a deep, larger-than-life contralto, proved so popular that she was kept on for a year and a half. Fantasy Records captured her and her associate, singer-banjoist Larry Mohr, there and in the studio for an album that marked the beginning of Odetta's celebrated recording career. This reissue contains all 13 selections from that historic release, plus six previously unissued Odetta gems recorded live at the Tin Angel.
