Best known for his association since the early `50s with bluegrass brother duet the Lilly Brothers, and as one of the progenitors (along with Earl Scruggs and Don Reno) of the five-string banjo style (Stover gave lessons to Bill Keith prior to Keith's joining Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in the `60s), this was Stover's first solo album. One of the most energetic performers and promoters of bluegrass, old-timey and country music, his impressive career -- spanning almost 50 years -- is characterized by inventiveness, humor and a profound love for his music. First released in 1972, and now available on CD and cassette, this album also features a young David Grisman on mandolin.
