Mel Torme was, quite simply, one of the finest vocalists in all of jazz and popular music. His recordings for the Concord Jazz label in the 1980s and 1990s are regarded by many fans and critics alike to be amongst the very best of his career. The two recordings presented here in this special 2-CD package - Night at the Concord Pavilion and Fujitsu-Concord Jazz Festival in Japan '90 - capture Torme in 1990 live in concert and at the peak of his creative powers. Both discs feature Mel's tight-knit trio - featuring John Campbell (piano), Bob Maize (bass) and Donny Osborne (drums) - plus a dynamic, swinging big band led by the legendary Frank Wess. "[Night at the Concord Pavilion] finds Mel Torme in typically fine form. Mel Torme fans will have to get this delightful session.... Virtually everything Mel Torme has recorded for Concord is quite rewarding; [Fujitsu-Concord Jazz Festival in Japan '90] is one of his best all-around sets." - Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
