Texas-born, Southern California-based pianist Camille Howard had been recording a year and a half as a member of Roy Milton's Solid Senders for Art Rupe's Juke Box and Specialty labels when her torchy vocal rendition of "Thrill Me" with Milton's proto-R&B band shot to number 5 on Billboard's "race" records chart in 1947. Rupe promptly signed Howard as a Specialty artist in her own right and scored immediately, at number 7, with a rollicking Howard instrumental titled "X-Temporaneous Boogie." Both hits are contained herein, along with 24 other numbers (20 of which have never before been issued) by this gifted and prolific performer who did it all: jump, jive, jazz, ballads, blues, and, especially, boogie-woogies.
