I know something you don't know / I know places you didn't go / I've seen highs, and I've seen lows / Hey! We've all got stories never been told before.' Most of the words on this recording come from young people talking about their interests, hopes, fears, dreams, families, communities, world, and selves. In the sweltering east coast summer of 1995, 21 of these kids, ranging in age from 8-16, from six states and a diversity of cultures, came together to record these songs -- and to learn more about themselves and each other. They were part of the Dream Project, created by musician/educator/cultural worker Jane Sapp to help young people express and share their thoughts, feelings, and identities through music and the arts. In her residencies and workshops in schools and communities throughout the country, Jane has drawn out these stories and helped the kids turn them into songs. In the process, the 21 Dream Project Singers (and the many other young people with whom Jane has worked) have begun to find their voices, to speak their truths, to discover their potential, and to realize their power. We hope you'll love the variety in these voices as we do, that you'll sing these wonderful songs in your families, schools, and communities, and that you'll always tell your own stories and follow your own dreams.
