Vibist Lem Winchester (1928-1961) is one of jazz's tragic figures. A Wilmington, Delaware police officer who turned in his badge to become a full-time musician, Winchester shot and killed himself in a foolish gun accident just months after winning the Down Beat New Star award on his instrument. A big reason for his poll victory was this album, his first studio date as a leader, where his soulful conception is featured alongside the more established (and, fortunately, more venerable) voices of Benny Golson and Tommy Flanagan.

with Tommy Flanagan, Wendell Marshall, Arthur Taylor
