In 1926, with Warren G. Harding in the White House and a year before Babe Ruth's 60 homers and Charles Lindbergh's trans-Atlantic solo flight, Junie C. Cobb's Hometown Band made their first recordings. On those sides, Cobb (1898-1970) played the clarinet; on subsequent 78s made in the Twenties and Thirties Cobb was heard on alto and tenor saxophones.
