You don't have to be feeling the blues to enjoy Tab Benoit's music. This Baton Rouge-born, Grammy-nominee shares his distinctive brand of pleasing, Cajun-influenced blues on Night Train To Nashville, the latest in his catalog of fourteen solid albums he's made since 1992.
There's joy in "Rendezvous With The Blues," which features Jimmy Hall of rock's Wet Willie and a sense of celebration on "Fever On The Bayou," with special guest Jumpin' Johnny Sansone on harmonica. In a more traditional vein, there is the mournful "Darkness" which may well elicit a cry of "Amen!" for those have experienced the deep emotions associated with lost love.
"Too Sweet For Me," featuring Kim Wilson of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, is rockin' blues and "Lost In Your Loving" has a strong R&B flavor to it, akin to old school New Orleans funk 'n' soul sides. The six-minute "Stackolina" is a true blues jam with Wilson and Louisiana fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux.
Benoit received the B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year Award from 2007 the Blues Music Association. Night Train To Nashville, produced by David Z (whose credits include work with Prince and Etta James), is a wonderful testament to Benoit's commitment to keeping the time-honored tradition of Louisiana blues alive in the 21st century.
